The Signs You’re Missing (And Why We Ignore Them)
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Have you ever looked back on a situation and realised… the signs were there the whole time?
In this episode of Psychic Whispers, Mesina explores the subtle ways life tries to get our attention — from intuitive nudges and repeating patterns to the quiet feelings we often talk ourselves out of listening to.
With humour, insight, and real-life observations from over 30 years of working with intuition, Mesina discusses why humans are so good at ignoring signs, how those gentle nudges often appear in everyday life, and why the answers we’re searching for are sometimes already sitting quietly in front of us.
She also shares how you can interact with life more consciously by asking for your own signs — not as something to obsess over, but as a playful way to pause, reflect, and become more aware of the guidance that’s already around you.
If you’ve ever wondered whether life is trying to tell you something… this episode might just help you notice it.

Hello, and welcome to the Psychic Whispers Podcast. Hello, beautiful soul, and welcome back to Psychic Whispers. Now, today we're talking about something I think every human being has experienced at least once in their life. That moment when you look back on a situation, sometimes months later, maybe even years later, and suddenly realize, ah, the signs were there the entire time. You know the ones I mean. The tiny feeling in your stomach, the conversation with a friend that made you pause for a second, that little moment where something didn't quite sit right, but you carried on anyway. Humans are fascinating like this. We ask for life signs, and then when the signs show up, we say, I'm not sure that counts. I think the one of the reasons that we miss signs so often is because people imagine them arriving in really dramatic ways. Like some kind of mystical announcement, right? You know, feathers drifting dramatically down from the heavens, angel numbers on every clock, every receipt, every microwave timer, a meaningful song playing it at the exact perfect moment while the wind gently lifts your hair like you're in a music video, right? And yeah, you know, sometimes life does have those moments. But most of the time, signs are much quieter than that. They're more subtle. They look like patterns, feelings. They might even look like situations repeating themselves until you finally stop and think, hang on a second, haven't I seen this before? You know, life is actually quite patient with us. If we ignore the first nudge, it usually just sends another one. And if we ignore that one, well, let's just say life has a way of just increasing the volume. I mean, have you ever been there where there's like a situation or a pattern in your life that's just like a broken record and on repeat? Uh-huh. Yeah. We've all been there. There are a few types of signs that humans are particularly talented at ignoring. And honestly, I'm going to include myself in this because none of us are immune. Even as an intuitive, I have looked back and thought, I think I missed the memo a couple of times on that situation. It happens. Now, the first one that we like to ignore the most, and I've said this in my podcast. And if you've been listening to the last few episodes and following along, this one, I hope doesn't get old, but it's true. The body feeling. That's the first one. That's the one that people tend to ignore the fastest. That feeling in your body. You know the one. Something just feels slightly off. It's not dramatic or catastrophic. It's just a little uncomfortable. And immediately your brain just jumps in like a very enthusiastic lawyer and says, no, no, no, no, no, no. It's fine. You're probably just overthinking. And sometimes we are overthinking. I mean, that's fair. But sometimes our intuition is just trying to quietly raise its hand and say, excuse me, yeah, I have a small concern. And that's the problem. It's that intuition kind of whispers. And fear, well, that tends to arrive with a full PowerPoint presentation explaining why we should ignore the whisper. Unfortunately, fear and anxiety are the loud guys, and the quiet good ones in the corner tend to be the ones that we ignore the fastest. Bless our intuition for trying. But we can change that, I promise. Another sign that people ignore constantly is patterns. Life has a very interesting way of repeating lessons. You might find yourself in the same situation again and again. Different person, different job, different circumstances, but somehow the emotional theme feels very familiar. And at some point, you might even pause and think, why does this keep happening to me? And their life, sitting there very calmly, is telling you, you know, because you haven't passed this level yet. I mean, life is basically the world's most persistent teacher. If we don't understand the lesson the first time, it just schedules the class again. And as annoying as that is, we need to start listening to the memos to stop repeating the classes. Then there's that inner voice, that tiny moment before the mind starts negotiating. It's it's a really minuscule moment, I'm gonna be honest, but it is significant. That's the moment where someone asks you a question, and for half a second, the answer is completely clear. And then suddenly the brain jumps in and starts running a full committee meeting. Well, maybe. Uh perhaps. Let's examine this from 12 different angles. Before you know it, you've talked yourself out of the answer you already knew. We do this constantly. And I see it all the time in readings. People will ask a question, and sometimes even before I've answered, they start explaining why they already know the answer. Or they've let me answer. And then I find out that they've I've literally just told them everything they already knew. They're like, I knew that. You know, that's exactly what I was thinking. And sometimes, you know, we're both by the end of the session just giggling like, well, the point of this call was to just validate what you already knew. Like you knew it. And a lot of times we do know it. But you know, humans are really clever at negotiating with themselves. And the fact is, we don't always trust ourselves. And that's where the problem really stems. That's the solution to all of this, really. So the interesting question becomes why do we ignore signs at all? The honest answer is that sometimes the sign is pointing towards something we don't want to face. Maybe it means a relationship isn't right. Maybe it means a job isn't fulfilling us. Or it might mean something in our life needs to change. And change can feel really uncomfortable. And the truth can be a very scary thing to face head on. So instead, we do what humans do best. We say, let me just gather a bit more information. One sign is not always enough. We want 10 or 15 before we take it and go, you know what? The universe has been talking to me all day or week, and I've had all these things bombard me. That's what we're waiting for. But you know, sometimes one sign is all you need. Sometimes it's great. It's wise to get more information. But sometimes what we call seeking clarity is actually just buying time. Now, here's the other side of this conversation. Signs aren't always warnings. You know, they can just be invitations. Sometimes life nudges you towards something really good. You meet someone unexpectedly, or you hear something at exactly the right moment. Maybe an opportunity appears that you hadn't planned. And those moments arrive often just as quietly, not with fireworks, just with kind of a feeling that says, yeah, this feels right. And with something that feels so subtle, I guess it's easy to ignore it. We're not always looking for signs to ward us away from impending doom. And I think sometimes we seem to feel like that's what we're looking for. Just tell me that I'm heading into trouble. Tell me if there's impending doom. And the universe is actually communicating with you that this is going to be great. This is a really good thing. And maybe this change, as scary as it might feel or seem, is the best path forward. Sometimes that's exactly what we're needing to embrace. And I think sometimes we're looking at it in a more negative connotation, then we're going to be talking ourselves out of that danger, uh, even if that's not what the universe is trying to say. Now, there is yet another side to this conversation that I think is really interesting. Because sometimes people will say to me, Hey, can you actually ask for a sign? And the answer is yes. Absolutely. You absolutely can. Now, I want to say this in a healthy way because what I don't want is anyone becoming obsessed or turning it into a daily treasure hunt, because that also will kind of drive you a little mental. And that's not what this is about. But there's nothing wrong with asking life or the universe for a little nudge or something specific. I think that this is possible, especially when you might feel the stakes are quite high. Your emotional investment might be really high on this particular thing. And you know what? Why not try it? You know, why not try it? Now, this actually came about the other day with our friend Chelsea. Hi, Chelsea. And she was talking to me about signs and her asking the universe for specific signs. Now, we didn't talk about the questions that she had, we just talked about the sign that she had asked for and it actually unfolded right in front of us, which was quite interesting. Now, she had asked the universe a question, don't know what that was, but the specifics around what she asked for was could you send me an orange octopus? I guess in the question being, is this the right thing, right not thing, et cetera? You know, if this is the answer, let me see an orange octopus, which I thought was a really interesting symbol. I thought, okay, orange octopus, right, fine, cool, interesting. I loved it. No, I actually didn't know anything about this until it actually unfolded. So my wife, Nick, and I were talking to Chelsea in the flow of a conversation completely unrelated to any of this, and just discussing just what was going on at work. And Chelsea suddenly said, You have an orange octopus on your arm, Nick, which she had never noticed. And there, my wife has a tattoo of an orange octopus, um, quite, you know, not massive, just in the midst of her sleeve. And she said, Yeah, have you not seen that before? No, I had never noticed. And interestingly, that had been the symbol that she had asked the universe for. And she found this like, okay, I think I have my answer. Like, of all the things, an orange octopus became noticed to her at a time that she had already asked this question. And there it was, manifesting right in front of her eyes. And she said to me, I'd done this a few times before. I've been asking the universe for different signs. I've been asking for different types of animals, you know, I like a pink giraffe and things like this, things that were specific for her to say that I won't be able to ignore that. And she was having results. You know, this was being shown to her, not just this time, but other times too. And I think at the moment, you know, she's navigating this kind of manifestation, communication with the universe. I love it. I really felt like this was something positive for her to try. And of course, don't get too obsessive, but why not give it a shot? You know, why not say, if this is what I'm supposed to do, show me this and just see what the universe has to offer. But you know, the important part is not getting too attached to exactly the form it takes. You know, sometimes people ask for a sign and then they start scanning the environment like a detective. Was that it? Does that count? Wait, was that close enough? And that's where we start to overcomplicate things again. But, you know, the sign can sometimes show up in very specific ways, as it did for her. I mean, the point isn't that the universe is sitting there fulfilling novelty requests, but the point is that when we ask with openness, you know, sometimes life does respond in really interesting ways. What matters more than the sign itself is the moment of awareness that it creates. You know, it slows you down, it makes you notice, and it invites you into a conversation with life instead of just rushing through it. And sometimes that moment of pause is exactly what we need. So, you know, give it a try, see what shows up for you, and be open to the possibilities of how it might come. And if you just ask, put it down, put it in writing, make a note, and then see how things show up. Make it casual. It can be something really profound if the universe starts answering your requests. And the good news is noticing signs doesn't require you to become mystical or magical. It really just comes down to something much simpler. Paying attention. Just notice what keeps repeating itself. You know, how does your body feel in certain situations? What recurring thoughts do you have? And not in an overthinking, anxiety, fear-based way, but what things just kind of keep popping back up to you? And just notice when something feels calm and clear. And if you can tap into that half a second before your mind takes over into the logical zone, what does that feel like if you stop and give yourself a second to lean in? What does it feel like when someone asks you something and you have that moment of clarity before you talk yourself out of it? You know, when something is genuinely aligned, it tends to feel really steady, not frantic. And hey, if you don't know what any of the signs mean, that's okay. Just notice how you feel when you get them. And, you know, you can always ask around and find out who else might be having these experiences. I know angel numbers are Google. So have a Google on what the angel numbers might mean just to kind of give yourself a bit more information. We don't have to have all of the answers to understand that we're being spoken to. And I think we can just be open to what is coming through and take it from there. I think one of the most interesting things about life is that it's always communicating with us. You know, not with dramatic announcements, always, but with just little nudges, with patterns and feelings and conversations. The question isn't whether signs exist. The question is whether we're willing to notice them. You know, because very often the guidance we're looking for is actually right there in front of us. And hey, I've gotten signs through conversations with other people. People have come and we've chatted over something casual, and I've noticed that they've brought something up that the universe keeps throwing at me in different ways. The amount of times I've seen something out in the world and I've noticed it, and then the conversation comes up with a friend and they've said something exactly the same. And I've gone, okay, that's twice now. Those are the things that I mean. So just, you know, tune in, see what might be coming up for you.
